grafting of acrylamide to low density polyethylene during melt processing
Authors
abstract
acrylamide was grafted in low density polyethylene during melt processing in the presence of a free radical initiator using a torque rheometer in a closed system. effects of processing time, acrylamide and benzoyl peroxide concentrations were studied. ftir studies revealed that the degree of grafting increased by an increase in acrylamide concentration. maximum grafting was obtained at 7 minutes processing time and 1% (wt/wt) peroxide. increase in acrylamide concentration led to reduction in melt flow index and increase in apparent melt viscosity.

full textCatalytic conversion of waste low density polyethylene into fuel oil
Waste Low density polyethylenes (LDPE) represent a source of energy and valuablechemicals, were pyrolysed catalytically in a batch reactor under atmospheric pressure. Calciumcarbide was used as a catalyst to explore its effect on pyrolysis product distribution. The effect oftemperature, amount of catalyst and time on the yields of the pyrolysed products wasinvestigated. The effect of catalyst o...
full textMelt Rheology of Poly(Lactic Acid)/Low Density Polyethylene Polymer Blends
In this work, rheological properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), low density polyethylene (LDPE) polymer blends were investigated in the molten state. The experiments were carried on a capillary rheometer. The effect of shear stress, temperature and blending ratio on the flow activation energy at a constant shear stress and melt viscosity of the blends are described. The results showed that the...
full textEffects of Thymolphthalein on Thermo-Oxidative Stability of High Density Polyethylene in Melt and Solid States
The present work aimed to evaluate capability of a new molecular structure to stabilize polyethylene against thermal oxidation. Hence, effects of 3,3-bis(4-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-propan-2-ylphenyl)-2-benzofuran-1-one (thymolphthalein) on thermo-oxidative stability of high density polyethylene (HDPE) in both solid and melt states were investigated and compared with those of SONGNOX 1010, a comme...
full textOxygen-barrier films based on low-density polyethylene/ ethylene vinyl alcohol/ polyethylene-grafted maleic anhydride compatibilizer
In this research, high oxygen-barrier films were organized based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/ ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH)/ polyethylene-grafted maleic anhydride (LDPE-g-MA) compatibilizer. The effects of 10–30 wt. % EVOH and 0–10 wt. % LDPE-g-MA loadings on the properties of final films were evaluated. The morphology of specimens was observed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM)...
full textComparison of grafting of maleic anhydride onto linear low density polyethylene with hexene-1 and butene-1 comonomers and prediction of optimum ingredients by response surface methodology
In this work, the grafting of maleic anhydride onto two types of linear low density polyethylene with hexene-1 comonomer (LLDPE-H1) and butene-1 comonomer (LLDPE-B1), in the presence of styrene monomer (St) and dicumyl peroxide initiator (DCP) has been studied. The combined influences of MAH, St and DCP on the grafting efficiency via a melt reactive mixing process have been investigated using r...
